The results of the by-election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday 11th August, 2018 the fill the vacant position in the Cross River State House of Assembly for the Obudu constituency have been announced.
In the results announced, the INEC Returning Officer, Dr. Tony Eyang declared Mrs. Abbey Ukpukpen, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner having polled a total of 12,530 votes to defeat her closest challenger, Mr. Adah Ishamali of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 4349 votes.
The elections were relatively peaceful, but there were isolated cases of violence reported in some of the polling units. Besides the PDP and APC, the other two parties that fielded candidates for the election were the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN).
Mrs. Ukpukpen is the widow of late Stephen Ukpukpen who was the member representing the Obudu constituency in the House of Assembly until his death this June which led to the seat being declared vacant to be filled via this by-election.
