The Children Soccer Clinic which kicked off on Saturday 4th August, 2018 in Calabar amidst a lot of fun and excitement continues into its second day today.
Under wet, but favourable conditions, many more parents brought out their children who could not attend the opening events. The organizers have, however, announced that the programme is over-subscribed and can no longer take more participants.
Today’s activities, according to Mr. Ekanem Ekpenyong, the programme coordinator involved warm-up exercises that included some stretching and loosening of the body as well as stationary movements. There was also a YOGA session led by Mabel Charles of FEET-WIT GYM and SPA.
The younger age-brackets (6-9) were given a ball each and taught how to be familiar and comfortable with the ball at their feet, while the older ones (10-12) were taken through ball control and passing using the side of their feet. There was even a segment for young goalkeepers who were also taken through the basics of that aspect of football.
Over twenty qualified coaches drawn from the Cross River State Sports Commission led the children through the various activities. The soccer clinic is for both male and female children aged between 6-12 years.
One of highlights today was the donation of 360 pieces of MARVEL brand jumbo-sized tissue rolls to the children by Peniola Ventures, the producers. Also, 100 cartons of premium FIRST ROYAL brand mineral water for refreshment was presented by Royal Farms International and Estates Limited. Both are partners of the soccer clinic programme.
