On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu.
The order, issued by Justice Stephen Pam, was due to the alleged disobedience of the INEC Chairman in not honouring the earlier order to appear in court on three consecutive occasions. This was in connection with the contempt charge brought against him by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State.
Today, barely 24 hours after, Yakubu has asked the Appeal Court to quash the order. In a notice of appeal filed by his lead counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN, Yakubu is claiming that Justice Pam acted in bad faith by issuing the order given that he had already filed a pending appeal against the order with the Judge duly notified. He insists that to date, no order has been served on him for his personal appearance in court as required by law.
No date has been fixed for hearing the appeal
